McCormack's parents are a clinical psychotherapist and the owner of a local ice cream restaurant. After her parents divorced in 1990, she enrolled at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut and earned the degree of BA in Comparative Art. In her early twenties when she began her stage career, it started by performing in "Amahl and the Night Visitor" which was a Christmas opera. The actress continued to perform in theatre and ultimately bagged roles both on smaller and big screens. Her versatility is recognized in the present.
